It’s getting the nuts and bolts, doing the things these people do. So a lot of times it’s sort of about a hairdo change or a bard change, not a massive transformation. It’s not very often you get to don a wig and teeth, not to mention 40 pounds. There are so many options in LA and New York, you just typically go find a person you want for that and you find the best actor who can do those things in the physical realm. Typically if they want a heavier guy, they’ll hire a heavier guy. Lange: Many times I’m just basically a version of myself-people want you to look like what you look like. It gave me a speech impediment that was key for the performance they were so necessary.Ĭan you talk about the challenge of making a physical transformation to play a role?
It made my front teeth stand out and made it harder to talk. You get used to them over time, they go right over your teeth. He gave them to me when we wrapped, they’re sort of like dentures or a retainer, made to my teeth. We had the things made by an artist, this incredible guy, Sakamoto, who made these teeth-he makes everything in Hollywood-top and bottom.
